Durham Castle
Durham Castle is only a five minute drive from the A1(M) and a ten minute walk from Durham Station. Durham Castle offers uniquely different university style accommodation in its grounds. This magnificent 11th century castle is part of a World Heritage site, with beautiful Durham Cathedral next door. As Durham Castle occupies such a fantastic location, it’s no wonder that budget travellers and backpackers flock to stay here. It’s really easy to explore the rest of Durham from this location too.
As you would expect from such affordable accommodation, the rooms are simply furnished. Some of them have private bathrooms and the rest share facilities. After a good night's sleep you will awake to a full English breakfast being served in the Great Hall of Durham Castle, which is included in the price of your room. You can also join one of the guided tours for free too (subject to availability). In the evenings you should frequent the lively bar, where you can catch up with friends or make new ones.

Durham Castle Reviews
Based on 496 Hotel ReviewsSpent four nights at Durham Castle in September, far beyond our expectations. Very spacious and well equipped room. Bonus was only 64 steps to our room instead of the 100 we expected. Breakfast in the Great Hall was super and all the staff were delightful
Durham Castle is excellent value. Basic student accommodation (bed, sink) with shared WC and shower but for the price of b and b and parking in Durham it was perfect for me. Porter very helpful. Set me up perfectly for the Great North Run on the Sunday
Excellent location for exploring the delights of Durham. Room at Durham Castle was comfortable with good facilities. Fantastic breakfast with huge choice and good quality. What a privilege to stay in such an amazing place. Thank you
Extraordinary stay in beautiful Durham Castle
Durham Castle is amazing. It does have over 120 steps if you are on the top floor though, which is the price of a view like that. The breakfast was nice
